What Poll stores
- The title and the description of your poll.
- The options of your poll: days, times, choices or items.
- The names people type, and their answers. A name can be a first name only. Poll does not check it.
- Two secret codes, kept as a fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash). The server cannot read the codes. They are explained below.
Where, and for how long
The data is in a Cloudflare D1 database. The server deletes every poll, with its options and all its answers, 30 days after the poll is made. You can delete your poll sooner, with your manage link. A person can delete their own answer sooner too.
What Poll does not do
- No cookies.
- No tracking, and no ads.
- The server does not store IP addresses, and does not log them.
- No account, and no email address.
- If the page has an error, it sends an error report. The report has no name, no answer and no secret code.
Who can see a poll
Anyone who has the link of a poll can see it, with the names and the answers. Share the link only with the people you want. Poll pages are hidden from search engines. If you turn on Hide names from other people, other people see only counts. The person who made the poll still sees the names.
The manage link and the edit code
When you make a poll, you get a manage link. It has a secret code after the # sign. Browsers never send that part to a server. The page reads it and sends it in a header, only to this site, when you change the poll. Your device also keeps it in its local storage, so the poll opens as yours on this device. Anyone who has the manage link can manage the poll. We cannot send it to you again.
When you answer, the server gives your device a secret edit code. Your device keeps it in local storage. With it you can change or delete your answer on the same device.
